The first batch of Ghanaian pilgrims has safely arrived in Mecca after departing from Tamale at approximately 11:30 am on Friday, May 1, 2026.

According to adomonline.com on May 6, 2026, five batches of pilgrims have so far left Tamale for Saudi Arabia to participate in this annual Islamic ritual.

In total, 6,000 pilgrims are expected to depart from Ghana in 18 different flights scheduled between May 1 and May 18, 2026.

Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the Director of Communication for the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG), stated that all members of the first batch are in good health and have faced no challenges during their journey.

He attributed the smooth transition to the effective measures implemented by authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims.

Lamptey also reassured families back home about the safety and welfare of their relatives, explaining that adequate arrangements have been made to support the pilgrims throughout their stay.

He added that an advance team has been dispatched to Saudi Arabia to receive the pilgrims in both Madina and Mecca.

“This year, we have enhanced our communication systems to ensure that sensitive information is handled accurately and shared appropriately,” said Lamptey.
