Broadcaster reacts as power outage disrupts live radio programme
A live morning radio programme was disrupted after a sudden power outage cut transmission, leaving a broadcaster on Oyerepa FM in Kumasi visibly frustrated on air.
In a video shared on X by Harry Darling on May 6, 2026, the host of the programme, Nana Yaw Mensah Joel, bemoaned the repeated interruptions.
“Why, my power has gone off six times this morning... From 5:40am to 7:21 am, power has gone off six times. This is not nice, and if you say it, some people will descend on you,” he remarked.

He also criticised what he described as inconsistency in public commentary on ongoing power outages in parts of the country.
“This is not fair, and you have some pastors also displaying double standards during this administration. In this country, people are not truthful. What didn’t these pastors say about dumsor during the previous administration?” he asked.
Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun a major upgrade at the Kumasi Ridge Substation as part of efforts to improve power reliability to reduce outages.
The project forms part of the company’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme and involves upgrading an existing 20/26MVA transformer to a higher-capacity 30/39MVA unit.
The works are scheduled from Wednesday, May 6 to Saturday, May 9, 2026, and are expected to improve electricity supply in the Ashanti Region.
ECG says the initiative is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving service delivery, though residents may experience planned outages during the upgrade period.
