The Minister of State in charge of Climate Change, Seidu Issifu, has disclosed that Ghana requires an estimated US$22.6 billion to effectively tackle the growing challenges posed by climate change.

Speaking at the government’s accountability series on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, he said the country cannot mobilise the required resources independently, stressing the importance of strategic international partnerships.

“We cannot do it alone. Ghana requires about US$22.6 billion to take care of our climate needs,” he stated.

Issifu noted that efforts are underway to secure the required funding through collaborations, particularly with the European Union, to help bridge the financing gap.

“US$22.6 billion, we cannot raise it by ourselves. We need strategic partners to be able to do that, and I work closely with the EU,” he said.

He explained that such partnerships are key to supporting government efforts in raising climate financing and implementing development initiatives.

He emphasised that sustained cooperation and external support remain critical to advancing Ghana’s climate resilience agenda.
