Lawyers for the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, say they have been unable to reach their clients more than 24 hours after their re-arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The couple, along with other accused persons, were picked up again shortly after the Office of the Attorney General dropped all charges against them, on May 5, 2026, citing fresh evidence.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews monitored by GhanaWeb on May 6, 2026, the legal team led by former Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, raised concerns over what he described as a denial of access to their clients.
According to Dame, junior lawyers have been at EOCO’s offices since around 11:00 am but have not been granted access to either Hanan or his wife.
“They have been denied access to counsel. Junior colleagues of mine who are at EOCO say that as of about 11 o’clock, they have not been given access to them. They have not been allowed to see their clients,” he questioned.
He further alleged that Hanan fell ill during the period of detention, was taken to a hospital, and later returned to EOCO custody, yet remains inaccessible to his lawyers.
The legal team further criticised what it describes as an “unhealthy practice” of harassment, insisting that if the state has a legitimate case, due process must be followed.

“If the Republic has a genuine case against a person, they ought to abide by due process… and arraign the persons before court with all rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Ghana,” Dame stated.
Operatives from EOCO have re-arrested Hanan Abdul-Wahab and Faiza Seidu Wuni. minutes after the Attorney General’s Department moved to discontinue all criminal charges against the pair in a case involving an alleged GH¢78 million loss to the state.
The couple, who had been facing trial over the procurement and supply of foodstuffs for the national school feeding programme, were briefly free before being taken back into custody.
Meanwhile, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney General, has clarified that the emergence of new evidence necessitated a pause and a reconfiguration of the state’s legal approach.
“Following the discovery of fresh evidence, we have, a while ago, withdrawn from the prosecution of all the Accused Persons in the case of THE REPUBLIC v HANAN ABDUL-WAHAB ALUDIBA and 4 OTHERS,” he stated.
