The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has strongly rejected recent media reports questioning the reliability of test results from its Central Laboratory, describing the reports as misleading and inaccurate.

In a statement, according to 3news.com, issued on Thursday, May 7, 2026, hospital authorities affirmed that all tests conducted at the facility are scientifically accurate and reliable.

The management emphasised that the Central Laboratory is one of the most advanced and best-equipped medical laboratories in Ghana and the West African sub-region, adding that it is staffed by highly trained professionals and serves as a major training centre for laboratory scientists across the country.

The hospital further highlighted that the laboratory holds the prestigious ISO 15189:2022 accreditation, an international standard that certifies its competence in medical laboratory testing and quality management systems.

“Given its standards, accreditation and track record, management assures all and sundry that the results generated by the laboratory are valid and reliable,” the statement said.

The KBTU management reaffirmed its commitment to continuously improving laboratory services to support clinical care, accurate diagnostics, and medical training.

It also noted that ongoing investments are being made to strengthen the laboratory’s capacity to deliver timely and high-quality services to patients.

The hospital assured patients and the general public of the integrity and dependability of all services provided by the Central Laboratory.

Korle Bu Doctors Association calls off strike

Background

The hospital’s statement comes in response to a growing dispute between the Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) and Medical Laboratory Scientists at the facility.

Earlier in the week, doctors publicly raised concerns about the accuracy of some laboratory results and alleged that laboratory physicians had been restricted from effective oversight of the lab.

This led to the doctors temporarily withdrawing Out-Patient Department (OPD) services on May 4, 2026.

The medical laboratory scientists rejected the doctors’ claims, describing them as unfounded and damaging to the reputation of the laboratory.
