Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo
The Ga Traditional Council has expressed support for Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo following her controversial comments regarding staff postings to Northern Ghana.
The Council described her remarks as “an unfortunate lapse in communication” rather than a deliberate act of malice.
In a press release issued on May 7, 2026, the Council acknowledged that Ocloo’s comments have understandably caused concern and disappointment among various segments of the public, particularly individuals from the Northern Regions.
However, the Council emphasised that her comments were not intended to demean, insult or undermine the dignity of people from the North.
According to a report by myjoyonline.com on May 7, 2026, the controversy arose from remarks made by the Shai Osudoku MP that many on social media perceived as dismissive.
The statement, signed by Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, clarified, “We believe the minister’s remarks constituted an unfortunate lapse in communication rather than a deliberate expression of malice or disrespect.”
The Council commended Ocloo for her public clarification and expression of remorse, apologising to all who felt offended by her remarks.
They urged the public and relevant stakeholders to respond with “understanding, forgiveness and a spirit of reconciliation,” adding that “isolated slips in expression should not overshadow years of dedicated service.”
The Council underscored that Ghana’s strength lies in “unity in diversity,” and reiterated that every region is essential to the country’s progress.
Linda Ocloo, who was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama after the NDC’s electoral victory, is known for her grassroots appeal but has faced criticism for her direct communication style.
The incident has reignited debate on regional respect and how perceptions of postings to the North can impact national development.
