A 60-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 16-year-old son in a shocking incident in North Legon that has sparked public outrage.

According to a briefing by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region with the Ghana Police Service, the suspect was apprehended by the Madina Divisional Police Command following a rapid response to reports of the disturbing abuse.

A report from myjoyonliner.com, dated May 7, 2026, indicates that preliminary investigations revealed the incident occurred on May 3, 2026, when the teenager went out to play football with friends despite his father's repeated warnings.

Police stated that "upon the boy's return, his father, identified as Eric Mante, confronted him and acted out of anger regarding his behaviour."

During the confrontation, he allegedly tied the victim to a quad motorbike and sped off, dragging him along the road near the Adonai Church area.

The victim reportedly fell and was dragged for several minutes, sustaining multiple injuries.

Obeng noted that "the cries of the victim drew the attention of local residents, who intervened and stopped the suspect before reporting the incident to the police."

The injured boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the suspect was arrested shortly thereafter.

She added that during the investigation, "the suspect admitted to the act, stating he acted out of anger after warning his son repeatedly against such activities."

The police have condemned the incident as a serious case of child abuse and urged parents and guardians to use lawful and non-violent methods to correct children's behavior.

Juliana Obeng also encouraged the public to promptly report all cases of abuse to law enforcement authorities to ensure swift action.
