Mohammed Salisu has taken a significant step in his recovery from a serious knee injury after returning to the pitch for individual ball sessions at AS Monaco’s training base.

The Ghana international has been out of action since January 2026, when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during Monaco’s Ligue 1 encounter against Olympique Lyonnais.

The injury forced the 26-year-old defender to undergo surgery and begin a lengthy rehabilitation process that has kept him away from competitive football for several months.

Fresh footage from Monaco’s training centre now shows Salisu back on the grass working with the ball, a major sign that his recovery is progressing well.

Although he is not yet training with the main squad, the defender’s latest milestone offers encouragement to both Monaco and Ghana supporters who have eagerly awaited his return.

Before the setback, Salisu had established himself as one of Monaco’s most reliable defenders and remained an important figure for the Black Stars.

He also made a strong contribution during Ghana’s World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring twice in crucial matches.

Despite the positive development, a return in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup still appears unlikely.

ACL recoveries often require several months before a player can safely return to high-intensity football, and Monaco are expected to take a cautious approach with his rehabilitation.

The French club will continue managing his workload carefully as Salisu gradually works toward rejoining full team training ahead of the 2026-27 season.
