The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has chastised the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, over his comments regarding the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) reported financial losses.

The leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) attributed the billions of cedis in losses recorded by the BoG to what he described as flawed policy decisions, urging greater transparency and accountability.

Oppong Nkrumah also claimed that the central bank’s financial position has not been fully disclosed to the public, noting that the losses recorded in 2025 follow a similar pattern observed in previous years.

However, the Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted these claims, stressing that the BoG did not conduct an internal audit but instead engaged one of the world’s leading audit firms, KPMG.

“So what we are discussing is not a document prepared by the Bank of Ghana. This is a document prepared by KPMG. And when we talk about KPMG, you’re talking about one of the four biggest accounting and auditing firms in the world,” he said on Key Points aired on TV3 Ghana on May 9, 2026.

He added that the audit reflects the true financial position of the central bank and should be taken seriously.

The GoldBod CEO further clarified that Oppong Nkrumah’s claim that the BoG incurred losses of GH¢34 billion is misleading and should be disregarded.

He warned the MP to be cautious in his public commentary unless he can provide credible evidence to challenge the audit findings.

“KPMG says the Bank of Ghana made an operating loss in 2025 of GH¢15.6 billion. And then you have Kojo Oppong Nkrumah saying it is GH¢34 billion. Are you an auditor? What credibility do you have?” he questioned.

He further argued that unless the audit report is credibly challenged, its findings should stand.
