Raymond Archer is the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO)
The Executive Secretary of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, has dismissed allegations that former National Food Buffer Stock Company Chief Executive Officer Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, were denied access to their lawyers while in custody.
His clarification comes after the couple’s legal team raised concerns that they had been unable to reach their clients more than 24 hours after their re-arrest by EOCO officials.
The lawyers, led by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, described the situation as a breach of due process, alleging that access to counsel had been restricted.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, May 9, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Archer insisted that EOCO had not obstructed any legal rights.
'We have been blocked from seeing Hanan, wife' - Lawyers claims
“I did not deny Hanan and his wife access to their legal counsel. It is not true that lawyers came to represent their clients and then they were arrested. That is not true,” he stated.
“I will not even allow interrogations to continue or start with any suspect unless his lawyer is present, and so that is the clarity I wanted to bring to you,” Archer added.
According to him, all procedures being followed are consistent with lawful investigative processes and established protocols.
Hanan and his wife were taken back into custody shortly after the Attorney General’s Office discontinued charges against them, citing fresh evidence.
Their re-arrest has reignited legal debate over prosecutorial discretion and the handling of high-profile corruption-related investigations.
