Rejoice Yabani is the mother of the late Joana Deladem Yabani
The mother of Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student allegedly murdered by her boyfriend at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has broken her silence.
In a heartfelt conversation yet to be aired on VOKLive, but with excerpts shared on X on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Rejoice Yabani described the unimaginable pain of losing her daughter, saying the young man she loved turned out to be extremely dangerous.
According to her, the date of the tragic incident, February 27, 2025, has become permanently etched in her memory.
“There’s a picture flying about that they’ve killed somebody, a lady at KNUST. The picture looks like your daughter. She only fell in love with a young man with the heart of a beast,” she lamented.
KNUST student Joana Yabani laid to rest amid grief and outrage
“27th February will be a date I’ll never forget in my life until I return to my maker,” she said.
While expressing gratitude that the university’s CCTV cameras captured the incident, the grieving mother expressed deep frustration over the loss of her daughter and called for thorough justice.
She further recounted a chilling message allegedly sent by the suspect to her daughter.
She said, “The camera has been able to pick whoever did it. His act has been captured. But my daughter is gone forever. I read something somewhere that he sent to my daughter. He said the mirror that once told him, ‘You are beautiful,’ has now become a deadly weapon in the hands of the same person. I was like, ‘Wow.’”

Yabani, however, commended KNUST for installing surveillance cameras but issued a strong warning to the authorities:
“We want to thank this school. At least they had cameras that could pick out evildoers. They only have to be fair and just. Otherwise, my daughter’s blood will speak, and it will shock people. This is a spiritual matter.”
