The Management of Ghana Hostels Limited (Legon Pent Hall) has refuted reports claiming that hostel fees have been increased by 90%, a claim that sparked public uproar.
In a statement released on May 4, 2026, management clarified that although an image circulating online has been cited by some media outlets, it is doctored and misleading.
“The Management of Ghana Hostels Limited (Legon Pent Hall) has noted with grave concern a viral image circulating on social media, purportedly from Metro TV Online, claiming that hostel fees have been increased by 90%. We wish to state categorically that this information is false, malicious, and a complete fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic and disaffection among the student body and the general public. The image in circulation is a doctored graphic,” portions of the statement read.

Management emphasised that no such increment has taken place and urged the public to disregard the claim, noting that any fee adjustments must go through the appropriate approval channels.
They further stated that investigations are ongoing to identify those behind the misinformation and to take appropriate action.
“There has been no decision or approval to increase hostel fees by 90%. All fee structures are subject to rigorous internal review and must align with regulatory frameworks and university stakeholder engagements. Any adjustments to fees or policies are communicated exclusively through official Pent Hall JCR portals, Ghana Hostels Ltd. administrative notices, and verified media press releases. We urge students, parents, and the media to disregard this fake news. Sharing unverified information not only creates anxiety but also undermines the stability of the academic environment.
"Ghana Hostels Ltd remains committed to providing affordable, safe, and conducive accommodation for students. We are currently investigating the source of this misinformation and reserve the right to take legal action against individuals or entities found to be spreading false information using our image and reputation,” the statement added.
