Social media users have been reacting to the tragic death of Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene (Youth Chief) of the Ayanfuri Traditional Area in the Upper Denkyira West District, who died after accidentally discharging a pump-action shotgun while participating in funeral rites.
The incident, which has been widely shared on X, reportedly occurred on Friday, May 8, 2026, during the funeral of the late Abusua Panyin Akwasi Kwateng at Ayanfuri in the Central Region.
Eyewitness footage circulating on social media shows the chief, dressed in traditional regalia and adorned with green leaves and charms, dancing energetically among mourners under funeral tents while holding the firearm.
Moments later, the weapon discharged, and he sustained a serious abdominal injury before collapsing.

He was immediately rushed to the Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital, where medical personnel observed a severe abdominal wound.
Despite efforts to save his life, Nana Kwabena Okyere died while receiving treatment.
His body has since been deposited at the Dunkwa-on-Offin Municipal Hospital mortuary, while the Ghana Police Service
has launched an investigation into the incident.
