Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says Africa is ready to host the prestigious World Athletics Championships, stressing that countries across the continent are prepared to unite behind any nation selected to stage the global event.

Speaking at a council meeting of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Kofi Adams called for greater unity among African nations in their efforts to elevate athletics on the continent.

“I want us to speak with one voice,” Adams said, urging member nations to think collectively as a federation while athletes continue to compete under their individual national flags.

The Minister pointed to Africa’s growing success in hosting major athletics events, including the World U20 Championships in Kenya, a cross-country championship in Uganda, and the recent World Relays hosted in Botswana.

According to him, these successful competitions demonstrate that the continent has the capacity to organise world-class events with the necessary support.

“It should give us an indication that with just minimal federal support, Africa is ready to host the World Championships,” he stated.

Adams assured that Ghana would support any African nation granted the opportunity to host the championship, emphasising the need for collaboration across the continent.

“We will not leave that country alone. We will join hands with that country to have a successful event,” he added.

The Minister also encouraged African countries to work collectively to improve sports infrastructure, insisting that a united approach would strengthen the continent’s standing in global athletics.

“Let our athletes compete, and let us speak as CAA,” he said.
