Dr Gideon Boako is the Member of Parliament for Tano North
The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has reacted to ongoing discussions surrounding the Bank of Ghana’s reported GH¢34 billion loss for 2025, insisting that the figure has already been confirmed by the central bank.
In a post on X on May 10, 2026, the lawmaker argued that attempts to dispute or downplay the reported loss were misleading, stressing that the matter was no longer in doubt.
“The Bank of Ghana’s GH¢34 billion loss for 2025 is not in dispute. BoG itself has confirmed this in subsequent public releases on its social media channels. It’s unclear why there are attempts to obscure this fact,” he wrote.
He explained that comparing the central bank’s financial performance over time requires proper restatement of earlier accounts due to changes in reporting formats.

According to him, previous accounting practices recorded all gains and losses in the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement, but the current management introduced a new structure in 2024 that separates some items into Other Comprehensive Income (OCI).
He said this change has contributed to public confusion regarding the bank’s financial position.
“If you want to compare BoG’s profit and loss over the years, you must restate prior years’ accounts,” he stated.
Boako added that although OCI items are reported separately, they still represent losses that impact the central bank’s overall financial health and equity position.
“Either way, whether OCI is included in the P&L or not, an OCI loss is still a loss. It is reflected in the bank’s negative equity position,” he added.
