The North East Regional Minister, Ibrahim Tia, has announced that measures are being put in place to ensure the smooth establishment of the proposed rice mill factory at Jadema in the Mamprugu-Moagduri District.

The project, originally introduced by the government to support rice farmers and boost agro-processing in the North East Region, has remained stalled, with no visible construction or implementation, leaving many residents disappointed.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Government Accountability Series in Nalerigu on May 9, 2026, the Regional Minister disclosed that the administration is preparing to resume engagements with the World Food Programme (WFP), the identified sponsor of the initiative, to ascertain the current status of the project and address the challenges delaying its execution.

“Last month, their Regional Coordinator came, and I raised the issue with her. She said she had also just reported it and would have to return to her office to trace the stage it has reached,” he stated.

Tia stressed his determination to push for the realization of the project, describing it as critical to the socio-economic development of the Mamprugu-Moagduri District and the North East Region as a whole.

The proposed rice mill is expected to enhance local rice production, create employment opportunities, improve processing capacity, and reduce post-harvest losses for farmers in the area.

Jadema, known for its vast rice-farming potential, was selected for the project as part of efforts to strengthen the agricultural value chain and support local farmers.

However, the prolonged delay has sparked concerns among farmers and residents, with some questioning the government's commitment to fulfilling the promise.

The Regional Minister maintained that the government remains committed to ensuring that the project eventually takes off, insisting that the rice mill could significantly contribute to economic growth and agricultural development in the region.
