A Ghanaian teacher has once again brought global recognition to the country after being named the Sub-Saharan African regional winner of the 2026 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards.

This is the second consecutive year that a Ghanaian teacher has earned this prestigious honour, according to a report by graphic.com. gh.

Abigail Agyeiwaa, an English teacher at Mangoase Senior High School, emerged victorious from more than 1,500 nominated teachers across Sub-Saharan Africa.

She was honoured for her outstanding contribution to education and community development.

The awards, organised by Cambridge University Press and Assessment, celebrate teachers who are making a transformative impact in classrooms and communities worldwide.

Abigail began her teaching career in 2014 in Adawso, a rural town in the Eastern Region.

Over the years, she has become widely known for championing quality education in underserved communities and advocating equal opportunities for rural learners.

Beyond the classroom, she has expanded her impact through social intervention programmes aimed at addressing barriers that prevent children especially girls and vulnerable students—from staying in school.

Speaking after her win, Abigail described education as a basic human right and said her passion goes beyond teaching academic content.

She noted that many students struggle not due to lack of intelligence but because of poverty, limited opportunities and social challenges that affect their confidence and access to education.

“For me, teaching has always meant understanding what prevents children from succeeding and trying to remove those obstacles,” she said.

The 2026 Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards received more than 12,000 nominations from 126 countries, with nine regional winners selected globally.
