Images of East Legon businessman arrested for alleged drugging and sexual abuse surface online

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on May 12, 2026, announced the arrest of a 36-year-old entrepreneur in connection with the alleged non-consensual sharing of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.

The police identified the suspect as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, a resident of East Legon in Accra, who was arrested on May 6, 2026, in a joint intelligence-led operation by the Cyber Crime Unit of the CID and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).

Following the announcement, more details are emerging about the suspect, Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng.

Multiple sources have indicated that Anane Boateng is the same person as the famous socialite, SoAfrican.

SoAfrican is trending on X and other social media platforms, with his images and videos going viral.

Some of the visuals show him with some top Ghanaian personalities, including some from the entertainment industry.

A number of netizens are shocked by the development, with many of them worried about the growing trend of Ghanaian personalities being implicated in fraud.

How SoAfrican allegedly operated:

Briefing the media on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, on major criminal investigation breakthroughs, the Director-General of the CID, Lydia Yaako Donkor, said investigations revealed that the suspect operated a Telegram platform known as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”

According to her, the suspect allegedly used alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, to drug unsuspecting female victims before sexually assaulting them, recording the acts, and sharing the content online without their consent.

“The suspect is alleged to have frequented nightclubs in 2025, where he seduced, drugged, and sexually assaulted female victims before recording and disseminating their intimate images without their consent,” she stated.

During the arrest, police retrieved several items, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets believed to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.

COP Donkor said the electronic devices have been retained for forensic examination, while the sachets are being submitted to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for verification and classification.

She confirmed that the suspect has been arraigned before a court, while investigations are ongoing.

The police reiterated their commitment to tackling online sexual exploitation and abuse and urged the public to report suspected cases through the appropriate channels.
