Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey is the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection
The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has paid a heartfelt visit to the family of a young boy who was recently subjected to a shocking case of child abuse in North Legon, Accra.
The young boy was allegedly tied to a motorbike and dragged through street of North Legon in the disturbing incident on May 3, 2026.
The minister, accompanied by a delegation from her Ministry, visited the family to personally assess the child’s condition and offer immediate support following the traumatic event.
During the visit on May 12, 2026, the minister sat with the boy and his relatives, offering words of comfort and assuring them that the government stands firmly with them in the boy’s protection, care, and emotional recovery.
She made it clear that his well-being is a top priority and that he will receive all the necessary help to heal from the ordeal.
She also took time to commend the Good Samaritan whose quick intervention helped rescue the boy, as well as, the kind-hearted individuals and organisations that have supported the family since the incident attracted public attention.
The minister used the occasion to send a strong message to caregivers across the country, urging them to embrace non-violent and positive ways of disciplining children.
She stressed that child abuse should never be treated as a private family affair when a child’s safety and life are at stake.
She further appealed to the public to stay vigilant and promptly report all suspected cases of child abuse to the authorities.
To ease the family’s immediate burdens, the minister presented a package of relief items on behalf of the government.
These included bags of rice, cooking oil, beans, milk, tin tomatoes, toilet rolls, antiseptics, soap, and other essential supplies.
In addition, a cash donation of GH¢5,000 was given to support the child’s care and medical needs.
Looking beyond the short term, the minister announced that the family will be enrolled in the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme to provide them with sustained social support and help improve their living conditions.
The minister reaffirmed her Ministry’s unwavering commitment to protecting children’s rights and ensuring that vulnerable families receive the care and support they need.
