A frightening moment unfolded during Day 2 of the ongoing CAA African Senior Athletics Championships after a pole vaulter’s pole snapped mid-air during competition at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
In a video shared by Sporty FM on X on May 13, 2026, the athlete was seen sprinting towards the bar before launching into the air.
However, just as he approached the bar, the pole suddenly broke into two, causing him to fall headfirst onto the ground, missing the landing mat in a terrifying scene.
Fortunately, the athlete appeared unhurt after the incident and was later seen walking away with officials before preparing for another attempt.
The shocking moment has since sparked reactions online, with many sports fans expressing concern over athlete safety at the competition.
The incident also adds to a growing list of challenges that have affected the championship so far. On the opening day of the competition, there were reports of faulty timing equipment for sprint events as well as issues with the starter’s gun.
Ghana is currently hosting the 24th edition of the CAA African Senior Athletics Championships at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, with the competition scheduled to run from May 12 to May 17, 2026.
