Black Starlets coach, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum
Black Starlets head coach, Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has described Ghana’s participation in the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations as one of the proudest moments of his coaching career, calling the tournament the biggest international stage he has experienced so far.
Speaking ahead of Ghana’s opening match in Rabat, Dr Ogum said he feels honoured to lead the Black Starlets at one of Africa’s biggest youth football competitions.
“It is a very proud moment for me to be at the AFCON. This is the biggest international stage in my coaching career so far, and I feel honoured to have this opportunity to represent Ghana,” he said.
The former Kotoko coach also expressed gratitude to the Ghana Football Association for entrusting him with the responsibility of managing the national U17 side.
“I want to thank the Ghana Football Association for the confidence they have shown in me by appointing me as head coach of the Black Starlets."
"The support from the GFA, management committee, my technical team and everyone around the team has been tremendous and has helped us come this far,” he added.
Dr Ogum further praised the dedication and discipline shown by his players throughout the qualification campaign and preparations for the tournament, insisting the team is ready to compete against the continent’s best.
“The boys have worked very hard from the beginning of the qualifiers until now. They have shown discipline, determination, and a strong desire to succeed. We know the challenge ahead is difficult, but we are prepared to give our best for Ghana,” he stated.
