Sammuel Atta Akyea (L) and his client Kwabena Adu-Boahene (R)
Sammuel Atta Akyea, the lawyer of embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has expressed his displeasure over the decision of the court not to accept into evidence a bank transfer document in the ongoing trial.
During proceedings on May 26, 2026, Atta Akyea sought to tender an email document showing bank transfers from his client's personal bank account to one of the accounts of National Security, the Fidelity Bank account of the BNC Director.
But the court rejected the move after an objection from the Attorney General, who said that the documents were not relevant to the crimes Adu-Boahene has been charged with because the transfers happened in 2018, while the alleged crimes occurred from 2020.
Speaking to the media after the court proceeding on Monday, Atta Akyea criticised the decision of the judge not to accept the documents as evidence.
He stated that he was going to file an appeal to challenge the decision of the court.
“If you say that this is a document in which the 49.1 million was transferred into, but the judge says I don't want to see the document. How can you say this is a very serious ruling? We have to, we are going to appeal.
“Because the 49.1 million was not put in a pot under somebody's bed, the 49.1 million was received by an account, and if the judge doesn't want to see that account, that the money was received, and how the money was applied, how can we make progress with this? So we challenge it,” he said.
The said transfers included a supposed GH¢1.65 million from Adu-Boahene’s account to that of the BNC Director.
It also indicated a GH¢400,000 transfer from Adu-Boahene to the same account.
Mildred Donkor, the third prosecution witness, during cross-examination on Monday, told the court that the bank statements show transfers of GH¢1.7 million and GH¢402,000 were made to Adu-Boahene in 2018.
She is also reported to have said that Advantage Solutions, one of the companies reportedly owned by Adu-Boahene and his wife, pre-financed National Security special operations via the BNC account.
