Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is the Flagbearer of the opposition NPP
Former Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has joined Muslims in Ghana and around the world in celebrating Eid al-Adha, calling on citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice, compassion, and togetherness that define the sacred festival.
In a message shared ahead of the celebration, Dr Bawumia encouraged Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the deeper meaning of Eid al-Adha, a festival that commemorates faith, obedience, and devotion to God.
Imbibe values of sacrifice and obedience - Bawumia urges Muslims
As Muslim families prepare for prayers, acts of charity, and gatherings with loved ones, the former Vice-President said the occasion offers an opportunity for people to renew their commitment to selflessness and service to others.
“On this sacred occasion, we are reminded of the power of sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith,” he wrote on Facebook.
Beyond its religious significance, Dr Bawumia said the festival’s lessons remain relevant to the broader Ghanaian society, especially at a time when unity and mutual support are needed to strengthen national cohesion.
He urged citizens, regardless of their religious or political affiliations, to use the occasion to show kindness to one another and foster a spirit of national solidarity.
“May the spirit of Eid al-Adha inspire us to give selflessly, uphold compassion, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as one people,” he stated.
The former Vice-President also offered prayers for peace, prosperity, and blessings for families across the country as Muslims observe one of the most important events on the Islamic calendar.
“As we celebrate, may Allah accept our sacrifices and grant peace, prosperity, and blessings to every home,” he added.
Eid al-Adha, widely known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command before a ram was provided as a substitute.
The celebration is marked by special prayers, the sacrifice of animals, sharing food with family members and the less privileged, and acts of generosity aimed at strengthening community bonds.
