Ghanaweb had long engaged in abuse of words when it comes to their remarks about the Asantehene and it's funny how nobody has the courage to correct this erroneous classification and promotion of same. The man is a chief of the Asantes and why will anyone be elevating one chief over all the other chiefs in the country as though the Asantehene is the overload of all the other tribes.

This stupidity is happening in the full glare of our academia, political leaders, the clergy, CSO etc and shockingly, everybody is looking elsewhere just because, nobody is ready to ruffle the ego of one man who's in fantasy land anytime he's referred to as a 'monarch" which he's not in the actual sense of the word.

It is the basic lack of knowledge and ignorance that makes most of our brothers and sisters incapable of discerning right from wrong in the use and misuse of titles. I myself, have often wondered what the real title of the Asantehene is. People at the highest levels of govt and society, variously refer to him as a Chief, an overlord, a King and now, I am hearing a Monarch. I find it surprising that the administrative authorities of the powerful Asante kingdom have not found it necessary to step in to publicly and emohatically correct this disorderly anomaly.

Seeing that the random grabbing of titles is free for all, other traditional icons in other parts of the country have also joined the melee by claiming for themselves, all sorts of outrageous titles in what seems to be a race towards chieftaincy and ethnic equalization or superiority. Even our so-called men of God, not wishing to be left out, have jumped into the fray with a touch of comedy by arrogating to themselves the most comical and undeserved titles as well as names of their churches.

As for our chew, pour, pass and forget members of academia, forget about them. Even within the confines of their own domain, they cannot come to terms as to who is deserving to be referred to as a Professor, a Dr. or even as an academic.
