PHOTOS: Emotional scenes aboard emergency flight of Ghanaians fleeing SA xenophobia

Pictures of Ghanaian evacuees from South Africa have sparked a wave of reactions across social media.

The pictures, shared by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, showed relieved Ghanaians arriving home with their children after being evacuated from South Africa amid recent xenophobic attacks.

Some of the returnees were seen smiling as they reunited with officials and family members at the airport, marking the end of a difficult ordeal.

The caption accompanying the photos shared by Ablakwa on X read: “Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah must be proud of us. More evacuation flights next week. For God and Country.”

The government has successfully evacuated the first batch of 300 citizens who requested assistance to return home following xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.

Authorities say more evacuation flights are expected in the coming days as efforts continue to bring stranded Ghanaians home safely.
