The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has dismissed as fake a widely circulated notice claiming that Ghanaians and other African nationals had been ordered to leave Cambodia by May 31, 2026, or face arrest.

According to the Ministry, diplomatic engagements with Cambodian authorities confirmed that the Government of Cambodia issued no such directive.

In a press release dated May 29, 2026, the Ministry said the General Department of Immigration under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior had also issued a clarification describing the notice as “completely untrue.”

“Cambodian authorities have confirmed to us that they have issued no such notice. The Cambodian Ministry of Interior has proceeded to issue a press clarification today stating that the purported notice is “completely untrue,” Ablakwa said.

The Ministry urged the public and media to disregard the document and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and panic among Ghanaians living in Cambodia.

The statement follows the circulation of a purported immigration notice which claimed citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and other African countries had been directed to leave Cambodia or risk imprisonment and financial penalties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Ghanaians that the notice was false.

“The Ministry wishes to assure the public that following diplomatic engagements with the relevant Cambodian authorities, it has been confirmed that the said notice is absolutely fake and was not issued by any state institution in Cambodia,” the statement indicated.

The Ministry, however, disclosed that some Ghanaians in Cambodia had already requested assistance to voluntarily return home before the fake notice surfaced.

Ghana’s High Commission in Malaysia, which is concurrently accredited to Cambodia, has been facilitating the evacuation exercise in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

“Between March and May this year, we have evacuated 85 Ghanaians from Cambodia. 76 more are being evacuated to complete the exercise,” it added.

The Ministry further assured the public that the welfare and safety of Ghanaians abroad remain a priority for the government.
