Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has opened up on the intense criticism that comes with overseeing football in the country, claiming he is among the most attacked personalities in Ghana because of the Black Stars.

Speaking during the launch of the GFA’s UK Talent Identification Programme, Okraku said football’s influence in Ghana makes every decision surrounding the national team a national discussion, with blame and criticism often directed at him.

According to the FA boss, conversations about football dominate media spaces across the country daily, making it nearly impossible for his name to stay away from public debate.

“I am not too sure that in our country, there are more than two people who are more criticised than my good self,” he stated.

Okraku explained that reactions become especially intense whenever the Black Stars release a squad list or prepare for major tournaments, as fans, analysts and radio pundits immediately begin dissecting every selection.

Using the recent squad announcement by head coach Carlos Queiroz as an example, the GFA president suggested that many supporters direct their frustrations at him even when technical decisions are made by the coaching department.

He noted that social media criticism and radio discussions quickly escalate after every Black Stars call-up, with his name often becoming one of the main topics of conversation nationwide.

The GFA president has remained one of the most scrutinised figures in Ghana football in recent years, particularly following debates over coaching appointments, player selections and the performances of the national team.

Despite the pressure, Okraku indicated that such criticism reflects the passion Ghanaians have for football and the importance of the Black Stars to the country.
