A 15-year-old boy who was kidnapped in the Northern Region has been shot in the jaw by his abductors before being abandoned as police closed in on the suspected gang.

The victim, identified as Issah Ali, was reportedly abducted from his family home at Kabulya in the Nanumba South District between 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

According to a report by myjoyonline.com on May 29, 2026, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area disclosed that the kidnappers had initially targeted the boy’s father but abducted the teenager instead after failing to find him at home. Two other persons were also reportedly assaulted during the attack.

The family is said to have reported the incident to the police around 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

After spending several days in captivity, the teenager was allegedly shot on the night of May 28, 2026, before being abandoned by the kidnappers.

He was later rescued and referred under police escort to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Police have since arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping.

Investigators believe the abductors shot the victim as security operatives intensified efforts to track the suspected kidnapping syndicate, forcing the suspects to flee and abandon the boy.

The incident marks the second time in recent months that a kidnapping victim has been seriously harmed in the Northern Region.

Police sources say the kidnapping of community leaders and heads of families is becoming an increasing security concern in parts of the region, with similar cases previously reported in Kpandai, Sang and Wapuli.

Reports further indicate that another Fulbe chief is currently being threatened by suspected kidnappers and has allegedly paid more than GH¢20,000 to the group.
