The Head of Legal Affairs of the United Party (UP), Andrew Appiah Danquah, has criticized former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his handling of the LGBTQ+ bill.

Appiah Danquah argued that the former president failed to act on legislation that had become a major national issue.

“I think Nana Addo ran away from a considered duty,” he said on TV3’s New Day.

The lawyer went further, claiming that the former president failed to discharge a constitutional responsibility.

“He failed to perform his constitutional duty. I want to put it on record. He was unfaithful to Ghana,” Appiah Danquah stated.

According to him, many supporters of the legislation expected decisive action and were disappointed by the way the matter was handled.

His comments come as the bill, recently passed by Parliament, awaits the assent of President John Dramani Mahama.

Appiah Danquah insisted that political leaders must be prepared to make difficult decisions and should not avoid issues simply because they generate public debate.

“This was a matter that required leadership and action,” he argued.
