Thirteen drivers have been arrested for illegally using sirens and emergency lights during a special operation by the Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) along the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

According to a report by citinewsroom.com on June 1, 2026, the exercise was carried out at Budumburam on May 30, 2026, as part of efforts to clamp down on road traffic violations and restore discipline on the country's roads.

"The drivers were caught using sirens and emergency lamps without authorisation, contrary to Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180)," police said.

The offenders were educated on the law, processed by the MTTD task force, and issued warning letters.

Authorities also removed the unauthorised sirens and emergency lights from the vehicles and cautioned the drivers against repeating the offence.

However, the Central East Regional Police Command says it remains committed to enforcing traffic regulations and ensuring safety and order on Ghana's roads.
