A woman has recounted a distressing experience on live radio, explaining how a long-term relationship ended in betrayal after she took a GH¢5,000 loan for her boyfriend, who allegedly promised to use the money to marry her but later disappeared with it.

Speaking on Auntie Naa’s Oyerepa Afutuo show, the woman said she had been in a relationship with the man, identified as Joe, for about 12 years.

According to her, he convinced her to take the loan on his behalf, arguing that their long relationship meant she should support him financially as he prepared to formalise their marriage.

“I was in a relationship with a man named Joe for about 12 years. He made me take a GH¢5,000 loan for him, promising he would use the money to marry me. However, after I gave him the money, he took it and disappeared,” she said.

She explained that she proceeded to take the loan from Quick Credit based on his assurances. However, about two weeks later, their rent became due, and her boyfriend contributed towards it.

She noted that weeks after taking the loan for her boyfriend, he stopped mentioning anything about their planned marriage.

This prompted her to confront him about the promise, as there were no clear signs of any arrangements being made.

According to her, he then told her that since he had paid the house rent, he no longer intended to marry her.

The situation escalated when, on her return from the market one Sunday, she discovered that he had moved out of their home, taking the loan money with him and effectively ending the relationship.

She further disclosed that they share two children, and after he left, he stopped taking responsibility for them.

She said this forced her to take up work as a “trotro mate”, a bus conductor, in order to provide for the children.

However, she added that things took a more painful turn when she returned from work one day to find that the man had taken their two children without informing her.

She said efforts to reach him have been unsuccessful, as he often responds with insults instead of providing clear answers. Whenever she asks to speak to the children, he also refuses.

“He has absconded with the children, and whenever I call him, he does not tell me where they are. When I ask him to hand the phone over to the children so I can speak with them, he refuses and instead insults me,” she added.
