Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah
Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has called on Ghana's sports media to embrace responsible and constructive criticism in order to help grow and protect the country's sports ecosystem.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Games press conference, Ankrah praised the efforts of the Ghana Olympic Committee and expressed confidence that concerns surrounding visa applications for the Games would be resolved through the appropriate processes.
He noted that Ghanaian athletes, officials and supporters should remain patient while visa applications are being considered, adding that the presence of representatives from the British High Commission was a positive sign.
"I am very confident that the fact that he is here means that he will convey that message," Ankrah said.
Turning his attention to the media, the former broadcaster stressed the need for journalists to balance criticism with solutions-oriented reporting.

"The product is why we are all here. Whether you're working for OK FM, BBC, CNN or Joy FM, it's the product. If we destroy the product with our reportage, what then do we have to sell?" he stated.
Ankrah clarified that he was not advocating against scrutiny of issues within sports administration but rather encouraging a more responsible approach that contributes to the development of the sector.
"Constructive criticism is very important. As much as we're very passionate about talking about the challenges, let's also offer viable solutions and build the brand up," he added.
