Press Secretary and Spokesperson to the Vice President, Maame Ama Pratt has warned that unresolved procedural questions surrounding the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill could expose the legislation to future legal challenges.

She recalled how the previous version of the bill faced multiple court actions and public objections from prominent legal and academic figures.

“Don’t ever forget the number of times even the first one went to court,” she said on JoyNews.

Pratt argued that passing the bill is only one part of the process. Ensuring that it can withstand scrutiny after passage is equally important.

She pointed to criticisms and legal arguments previously raised by respected academics and legal experts, saying such concerns cannot simply be ignored.

“If we see this is the right thing to do, let’s get it right,” she stated.

According to Pratt, a law that is passed through a process widely viewed as legitimate will be better positioned to survive legal challenges and achieve its intended purpose.

She concluded that the focus should be on ensuring the legislation has the credibility and legal foundation needed to function effectively once enacted.
