Traffic on the main Odorkor road in Accra was disrupted on Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, after two large trees fell across the road following heavy rainfall that swept through parts of the capital on Wednesday night, June 3, 2026.

The fallen trees completely blocked sections of the road, forcing motorists and commuters to use alternative inner roads to reach their destinations.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were at the scene working to cut the trees into smaller pieces to facilitate their removal and restore traffic flow.

One of the trees fell directly in front of an electrical shop, causing damage to the pavement and tiled frontage of the property.

Speaking at the scene on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the owner of the shop said he was called at dawn and informed about the incident.

According to him, the impact of the fallen tree damaged the pavement in front of his shop, destroyed parts of the tiled area, and pushed a container located on the premises backwards.

Residents in the area said the tree fell during the heavy rains but fortunately did not result in any casualties.

A resident who witnessed the incident explained that they initially heard sounds suggesting the tree was about to fall while the rain was ongoing.

"When it was raining, we were in the room and we heard the tree was falling. But it didn't fall straight away, just slowly later on. We came out and saw that it had fallen and blocked the road," the resident recounted.

The resident further indicated that no vehicles or pedestrians were affected.

"There was no car parked around that time," the resident said when asked whether the tree had fallen on any vehicle or person.

As of the time of filing this report, no injuries had been recorded, and emergency responders were continuing efforts to clear the obstruction and restore normal traffic movement along the busy road.
