The security guard said he came out after hearing a loud noise
A security guard has recounted how a building near Melcom Plus at the Industrial Area collapsed in the early hours of the morning, trapping two people beneath the rubble.
The eyewitness, identified as Joseph Obedekeme, said in an interview with JoyNews that he narrowly escaped death when the structure suddenly gave way at around 4:25 am.
Joseph said he had been working as a security guard at the location for more than a year.
"My name is Joseph Obedekeme. I am a Nigerian. I've been a security guard at this place for more than a year now," he said.
According to him, he first noticed signs of danger after hearing a loud noise from a nearby shop.

"At 4:25 am, I heard something make a noise… I opened the door because I had not locked the gates. There was a shop here and I saw that the shop pillar had collapsed," he narrated.
He said moments later, the entire building came crashing down.
"The next thing that happened was that the entire building just collapsed," he recounted.
Joseph disclosed that a woman who had been sleeping inside the building was trapped when the structure fell.
"One woman was sleeping inside. Look at my body, it is God who saved me," he said.
He further revealed that two people were inside the building at the time of the collapse.
According to him, one of the victims managed to escape by jumping out in fear after the incident and was subsequently rushed to hospital.
"Two people were inside. One guy had to jump by himself due to fear after the incident happened, and they have taken him to the hospital," he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana National Fire Service has rescued two people from the rubble, with one in critical condition.
