City authorities have earmarked a building on Abebrese Street in Osu, within the Korle Klottey Constituency, for demolition as part of ongoing efforts to prevent an imminent structural collapse and safeguard lives and property.

The building has been cordoned off after officials reportedly raised serious concerns about its structural integrity.

A video shared on social media shows the structure barricaded.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that tenants have already begun packing their belongings ahead of an expected demolition exercise.

According to eyewitness accounts, officials from the Assembly, supported by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and police personnel, moved in to evacuate occupants after the building was declared unsafe.

Some tenants described the sudden evacuation as distressing, saying they had little time to relocate their belongings.

One long-term tenant, who had lived in the building for over 30 years, said the situation had left him stranded.

“I don’t have a place to sleep right now. I had to hire a taxi to move my things to Nungua. They just came with the eviction order,” he said.

However, the owner of the property confirmed that the family had received several warnings in recent weeks regarding the condition of the building.

She added that tenants had already left the premises, leaving only owners behind as they searched for potential buyers or relocation options.

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has stated that the evacuation and planned demolition form part of efforts to enforce building regulations and prevent avoidable disasters.
