The United States Embassy in Ghana has confirmed the extradition of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu to Ghana, describing the development as a strong sign of cooperation between the two countries in tackling corruption and financial crimes.

In an X post on June 9, 2026, it stated, "Justice has no borders. The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu to Ghana, following her conviction on 70+ corruption-related charges, including embezzling more than $6M equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer funds."

It further noted that the extradition is a landmark moment in bilateral efforts to address corruption-related offences.

"This is our strong US-Ghana law enforcement partnership in action demonstrating a shared commitment to accountability and the first extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009," it added.

Sedina arrived in Ghana on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at about 9:01 am at the Accra International Airport aboard United Airlines flight UA 996 from Washington Dulles International Airport.

Upon arrival, she was met by security officials and immediately taken into custody.

She is currently undergoing routine medical checks and administrative procedures before being transferred to begin serving her sentence.

Her extradition followed her arrest in the United States by US Marshals in Texas, after which she was held at the Nevada Southern Detention Center.

A US District Court in Nevada, presided over by Magistrate Judge Daniel J Albregts, certified Ghana’s extradition request in April 2026 after finding sufficient legal grounds and probable cause linked to her conviction.

The certification was issued under 18 U.S.C. § 3184, clearing the legal pathway for her surrender to Ghanaian authorities.

The case stems from a 2024 Accra High Court conviction delivered in absentia, where she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for offences including stealing and causing financial loss to the state during her tenure as MASLOC CEO between 2013 and 2016.

She was accused of contributing to losses of nearly GH¢90 million in public funds, alongside multiple counts of conspiracy and money laundering-related offences.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken Tamakloe-Attionu into custody following her arrival in the country.
