The High Court in Sekondi in the Western Region has placed an interim injunction on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its executives in the region, restraining them from conducting the party's Electoral Area Elections in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, which were scheduled to take place today.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs, who are aggrieved party members, filed an ex parte motion seeking an interim injunction to halt the elections. They cited, among other concerns, alleged breaches of the NPP's electoral processes and unconstitutional actions by the party and some of its executives.
The Court granted the motion on June 9, 2026, ordering that, "The defendants herein, whether by themselves or through the polling station election committee, their subsidiaries, agents, assigns, associates, representatives, workmen, privies, or any other person acting on their behalf, are hereby restrained from proceeding with, organising, conducting, purporting to conduct, holding or purporting to hold, supervising, declaring results for, recognising results from, or taking any further steps in respect of the New Patriotic Party Electoral Area Elections in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency scheduled for June 10, 2026, or undertaking any activity, procedure, or use of results emanating from the said process."
The NPP Electoral Area Elections in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency have been plagued by disagreements between some party executives and members over the manner in which the electoral process has been handled.
The aggrieved members have accused officials responsible for the elections of attempting to manipulate the process in favour of certain individuals, among other allegations.
The court's decision effectively suspends the electoral process pending the determination of the substantive issues raised by the plaintiffs.
