The Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has come under criticism for castigating the state-owned newspaper, Daily Graphic, over its front-page coverage of the ongoing strike at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), accusing it of ignoring key government achievements.

Broadcaster, Nana Aba Anamoah, in reaction to the post by Dafeamekpor challenged the Majority Chief Whip's position, stressing that the Daily Graphic despite being a state media, is not the government's PR.

Her concerns stem from the perception that people in places of influence for decades have sought to control the media.

In a post on his X page on June 9, 2026, he (Dafeamekpor) argued that several major national activities were taking place at the time which, in his view, should have received front-page attention.

“This is the front page of the Daily Graphic. A govt-sponsored newspaper that has for some strange reasons decided to gloss over major positive govt activities but instead focus on negative happenings,” he said.

He pointed to the Vice President’s visit to flood-prone areas in Accra and the recent evacuation of Ghanaian citizens in South Africa.

“As we speak, the Vice Prez has toured some flood prone areas in Accra and visited Alajo in the company of the Interior Minister, GAR Minister, Accra Mayor etc. A major news item,” he stated.

Dafeamekpor further criticised the newspaper for prioritising the strike action by medical staff at KATH.

“Yet, the Editor of the Daily Graphic has once again, deliberately decided to highlight on its front page, a strike action by KATH doctors… Nobody is above the law. We are all subject to discipline of the law.

“So for Daily Graphic to highlight what’s really a disciplinary issue render major govt policy moves as footnotes on its front page is journalistically most undesirable,” he added.

Meanwhile, doctors and nurses at KATH have called off their indefinite strike, protesting the two-week suspension of the hospital’s CEO, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

The action disrupted services and left patients stranded at the facility.

The Ministry of Health suspended the KATH CEO after the hospital temporarily halted fresh emergency admissions to manage severe overcrowding.
