The incident occurred on May 10, 2026, when the Minority Health Committee visited the hospital
The Municipal Chief Executive for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Wisdom Boamah, has allegedly threatened to dismiss a security guard at the abandoned Afari Military Hospital for granting access to Members of Parliament on the Minority Health Committee during a visit to the facility.
The incident occurred on May 10, 2026, when the Minority Health Committee, led by its Ranking Member, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, visited the hospital to assess its current condition amid growing pressure on the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
According to the committee members, the security guard initially allowed them to inspect the facility. However, moments later, the guard reportedly returned and asked the delegation to leave the premises.
The guard is said to have informed the committee that she had received instructions from Wisdom Boamah not to permit anyone access to the facility, and that she feared losing her job if she failed to comply with the directive.
The visit by the Minority Health Committee forms part of efforts to draw attention to the state of the Afari Military Hospital, a major health infrastructure project that remains uncompleted and non-operational despite significant public investment.
The committee observed that large portions of the facility have been overtaken by weeds and remain unused at a time when healthcare facilities in the Ashanti Region continue to face increasing pressure.
Members of the committee expressed concern about the hospital's condition and questioned why a facility intended to ease the burden on KATH has remained abandoned for years.
