Founder and leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah, has expressed confidence that President John Dramani Mahama will assent to the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill once he returns to Ghana.

Speaking on Okay FM on June 10, 2026, the outspoken preacher said he believes the President will sign the legislation into law despite ongoing public debate surrounding the bill.

“I learnt that President John Dramani Mahama is out of the country, but I have confidence in him that he will assent to the bill when he returns to the country,” Owusu Bempah stated.

The anti-LGBTQ+ bill has remained a subject of intense national discussion, with supporters arguing that it reflects Ghanaian cultural and religious values, while critics have raised concerns about its implications for human rights and international relations.

When asked whether he lacked confidence in former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to assent to the bill during his tenure, Owusu Bempah said circumstances at the time made it difficult to ascertain the former president's position.

“The bill was challenged in court at the time, but afterwards I didn’t get the chance to be close to him to engage and know his position on the matter until the elections took place and he subsequently left government,” he explained.

According to him, the legal challenges surrounding the bill during the Akufo-Addo administration complicated discussions over its future.

Owusu Bempah went on to commend President Mahama, describing him as a humble and God-fearing leader with good intentions for the country.

“As for President Mahama, I was told he had left the country. I’m sure once he touches down, he will assent to it. I haven’t heard anything yet from him,” he said.

“If he has returned, then he is welcome back home. We will pray to back him because he is a very good person,” he added.

The preacher further praised the President's leadership qualities, arguing that he possesses a genuine desire to improve the country.

“In fact, he’s a good person. When you speak with him, you get to know that his thoughts for the country are good,” he said.

Owusu Bempah also suggested that given a longer period in office, Mahama could significantly transform Ghana.

“If he had his kind to rule for a long time like in some Arab states, he would have been able to transform this country. He is God-fearing and humble. So, we pray that God guides him to rule this country,” he added.

The comments come amid continued public interest in the fate of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill and growing anticipation over the position the Mahama administration will ultimately take on the legislation.
