Philippa Pepera is a wellness advocate
Wellness advocate, Philippa Pepera, has called on parents and guardians to promote healthier lifestyles among children and young people, warning that increasing reliance on technology and social media is contributing to more sedentary habits.
Speaking at the launch of activities to mark the Centre's 30th anniversary in Osu, Pepera said the growing influence of artificial intelligence, social media and screen-based lifestyles makes it more important than ever for adults to lead by example.
"We must ensure that in today's world of artificial intelligence, social media and a sitting-in-front-of-a-screen culture, we do our utmost to be examples for our children by instilling healthy habits," she said.
The Managing Director of Pippa's Health Centre Limited also emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining good health, describing the body as a valuable gift that must be cared for.
"The body is our temple. It houses and protects our spirit. It is a gift, and we are its caretakers. We must never take it for granted," she stated.
Reflecting on the institution's journey over the past three decades, Pepera recounted how her late father, Dr William Quansah, encouraged her to pursue her vision at a time when health and fitness were not priorities for many Ghanaians.
"My late father told me, 'Pippie, if you don't jump, you will never know if you can fly.' With those words firmly in my heart, I took the leap, and we flew," she recalled.
According to her, establishing a professional fitness facility in Ghana came with significant challenges, including difficulties in securing financial support. However, she remained committed to building more than just a gym.
She explained that the goal was to create a community centered on wellness, personal growth and healthy living.
"What is the magic that happens at Pippa's Gym? We are a fitness facility that offers something for everyone, but at the root of it all, we have heart and soul. We create a sense of belonging and community," she said.
Chairman of the Centre, Paul Pepera, described the anniversary as a significant milestone and thanked members, staff and partners for their support over the years. He noted that the occasion reflects the trust generations of clients have placed in the institution.
Club Manager Miguel Sowah also highlighted the Centre's impact beyond fitness, noting its contribution to talent development through dance and martial arts programmes as well as community outreach initiatives.
He described the anniversary as an opportunity to reflect on the institution's achievements while recommitting to excellence and innovation.
The launch event brought together management, staff, clients, partners and invited guests and officially kicked off a series of activities to commemorate the Centre's 30th anniversary.
Since its establishment, Pippa's Health Centre Limited has provided fitness training, wellness programmes and community-based initiatives aimed at improving health and well-being across Ghana.
