Firefighters from the Mpraeso Fire Station have rescued two injured persons and prevented a potential explosion following a road traffic accident involving a gas tanker at Nkawkaw Apesika in the Eastern Region.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at 9:08 am, prompting the deployment of a five-member rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Effah.

In a statement issued on June 11, 2026, the GNFS said the crew responded swiftly to the scene and immediately undertook rescue and safety operations.

"Upon arrival, firefighters conducted rescue and safety operations, securing the scene and averting a potential explosion," the statement said.

The service indicated that two male victims who sustained injuries in the crash were rescued and handed over to emergency medical personnel.

"Two male injured persons were rescued and subsequently transported by ambulance to the Nkawkaw Roman Hospital for treatment," the statement indicated.

The GNFS further noted that firefighters successfully brought the situation under control, cleared the roadway and ensured the free movement of vehicles in the area.

"The crew successfully managed the incident, cleared the road, and ensured the smooth flow of traffic," the statement said.
