Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has expressed sorrow over the death of Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) student whose body was discovered at Hutchland Beach.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media on June 14, 2026, the Ketu North legislator revealed that he knew the deceased personally, describing her as a beneficiary of his scholarship scheme and a promising young woman from Dzodze.

Missing level 200 UCC student found dead

"I am completely distraught by the tragic news of the young UCC student who was found dead at a beach after she had been missing for days," he wrote.

According to him, he last met Innocentia in March during a scholarship award ceremony for students.

"My young star girl is gone, and in such a tragic way," he lamented, while extending condolences to her family and praying for strength for her mother and sisters.

Edem Agbana also expressed hope that ongoing police investigations would lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for what he described as a "heinous crime."

Meanwhile, the University of Cape Coast has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Level 200 student.

In a statement issued by the university's Directorate of Public Affairs, management said it is collaborating with the UCC District Police Command to establish the events leading to her death.

The university indicated that the Office of the Dean of Students' Affairs is coordinating efforts to support investigations, assist with identification procedures and liaise with the bereaved family.

UCC further disclosed that counselling and psychological support services are being provided to the deceased's roommate, course mates, and other affected students.

Police have since taken over the criminal investigation and are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination after obtaining the necessary coroner's authorisation.

Preliminary reports indicate that Innocentia, who resided in a private hostel at Amamoma, was last seen on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m.
