Political activist, Arthur Kobina Kennedy, has stated that US authorities would not have extradited former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, if her health condition was likely to be endangered by the process.

Speaking on NewsFile and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 15, 2026, Dr Kennedy said the United States of America, USA, would not have approved the extradition if her health was likely to be seriously jeopardised by the process.

“I think the Americans will not extradite somebody whose health will be jeopardised by the extradition process,” Dr Kennedy said.

He argued that the extradition itself presupposes that US authorities considered Sedina Attionu fit enough to travel, despite concerns that have been raised over her health condition.

“So, it presupposes that if the Americans sent her down, they thought that she was in good enough health to travel,” he stated.

Dr Kennedy further noted that Ghana’s prison system has healthcare facilities available to care for inmates who may fall ill, stressing that Sedina Attionu should still be allowed to undergo due legal processes while receiving necessary medical attention if required.

“Under prison service healthcare facilities, there are prisoners who spend time in hospital when they are not well. So, I take it for granted that they will take good care of her health,” he added.

He, however, maintained that while her rights, including the appellate process, should be respected, justice must be seen to work equally for both powerful individuals and ordinary citizens.
