Mahama, government appointees donate GH¢6.1 million to MahamaCares

President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled a pledge made at the launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) by donating six months of his basic salary and leading government appointees to contribute one month of their basic salaries to support the initiative.

The combined contribution, totalling GH¢6,102,737.80, was officially presented to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund on Monday, June 16, 2026, by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, on behalf of the President and government appointees.

Obuobia Darko-Opoku addresses overseas medical treatment under MahamaCares

According to the post, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, received the donation.

"Receiving the donation, Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, expressed appreciation for the contribution and commended the commitment demonstrated towards supporting Ghanaians in need of specialist medical care", the post stated.

Obuobia Darko-Opoku also called on individuals, institutions, and corporate organisations to contribute to the Fund to ensure its long-term sustainability and impact.

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MahamaCares, was established to provide financial support for the treatment of critical and specialist health conditions, particularly for vulnerable individuals who struggle to afford expensive medical care.
