Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority sides of the House put aside political differences to offer prayers for the Black Stars ahead of Ghana's opening 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Panama on June 17, 2026.

In a video capturing the moment by GhanaWeb, from Parliament on June 17, 2026, legislators were seen standing in solidarity as a prayer was offered for the national team, expressing hope for victory and a successful World Cup campaign.

The prayer led by Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, invoked divine guidance and protection for the Black Stars as they prepared to represent Ghana on the global stage.

"Precious Lord, this House of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana acknowledges the fact that you are a sovereign Lord and that the battle is ready, but deliverance comes from the Lord.

"You give Black Stars, our compatriots who are on the battlefield, the strength to come with the trophy. All we are looking for is that the trophy will come to this House.

"Today's game is a win. All we are looking for from you is that Lord, they will score and score and score, and that will qualify them to the final. Black Stars will be the first African country to win. This is all we ask with our hearts, that God, you bring it to pass because in you we trust. Amen," the legislators prayed.

The display of unity came just hours before Ghana took on Panama in a highly anticipated Group L encounter.

The prayers appeared to have been answered as the Black Stars went on to secure a dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama, courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from Caleb Yirenkyi.

The result handed Ghana all three points and sparked celebrations among fans across the country and abroad, while also giving head coach Carlos Queiroz a winning start to his World Cup campaign with the Black Stars.
