Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has called for a complete reshuffle of President John Dramani Mahama’s appointees, insisting that none of them should remain in office for more than two years.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on GhanaWeb TV’s The Lowdown, Ampaw argued that long tenures in public office encourage complacency, abuse of power, and corruption, and should therefore be avoided through regular rotation of appointees.
He proposed that ministers and other top government officials serve short, fixed terms of about one and a half to two years, after which they should be moved or replaced to allow fresh ideas and competition within government.
“All of them must go,” he stated when asked whether his proposal applied to the current cabinet.

He added that Ghana has many competent people who can be assigned ministerial roles on a rotational basis.
He also argued that even key economic portfolios, including the Finance Ministry, should be subject to the same rotation principle, insisting that no minister should be considered indispensable.
According to him, frequent reshuffles would prevent officials from becoming overly powerful or ‘untouchable,’ and would also reduce the perception that political office is an avenue for personal enrichment.
Ampaw maintained that a strict rotation system would improve accountability and performance, stressing that public office should be treated as a temporary responsibility rather than a long-term entitlement.
