Ghana's Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has met with officials of the United States Department of Justice to enhance cooperation in the fight against fraud, cybercrime, and transnational organised crime.

The Criminal Division of the US Department of Justice confirmed the meeting in a social media post on June 17, 2026.

“Today, we welcomed Ghana’s AG and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, reaffirming our shared commitment to fight fraud, cybercrime, and transnational organised crime. Strong bilateral law enforcement relationships make America and our allies safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” the post stated.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed that Dr Ayine was scheduled to meet officials of the United States Department of Justice for bilateral discussions on all pending extradition requests between the two countries, a development that could accelerate efforts to bring individuals back to face the law.

His announcement coincided with the arrival in Accra of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, who was convicted by the High Court in absentia in April 2024.

She returned to Ghana after a two-year extradition process to begin serving her sentence.

The development comes as Ghana continues to deal with several high-profile extradition and prosecution cases at various stages, each with differing legal complexities.

Among the most notable is the case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who faces multiple charges linked to alleged corruption in public contracts.

These include the GH¢125 million contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority and Strategic Mobilisation Limited, the $400 million National Cathedral project, ambulance procurement for the Ministry of Health, and contracts within the electricity sector.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor formally charged him on November 18, 2025, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct.
