The Ghana School of Law has announced a proposed fee structure for the newly introduced Pre-Bar Course, setting the recommended annual charge at GHS 14,943 for students across participating law faculties in the country.

In a letter dated June 17, 2026, signed by Professor Raymond A. Atuguba, Director of Legal Education, the institution explained that the proposed fee follows consultations with the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, the Acting Chief Justice and Acting Chairperson of the General Legal Council, and other key stakeholders.

According to the directive, the current approved fee for Part I of the Ghana School of Law professional training programme stands at GHS 22,415 for six subjects. The proposed Pre-Bar fee was calculated on a prorated basis, as the new course is expected to comprise an average of four subjects during the academic year.

The letter states that the GHS 14,943 charge is intended to provide a harmonised benchmark for all institutions offering the programme while promoting fairness, consistency and affordability without compromising the quality of legal education.

The Ghana School of Law also indicated that universities or faculties with unique circumstances may apply to the Council for Legal Education and Training (CLET) for special dispensation.

Any request for a departure from the standard fee arrangement must be accompanied by adequate justification and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Officials say the flexibility is designed to accommodate legitimate institutional and student-specific concerns while ensuring the orderly implementation of ongoing legal education reforms.
